Short (≤ 2 h)Desert Bread-Making Experience
Mix, knead and bake traditional bread with a local host, then enjoy it warm with olive oil, honey and mint tea.

Food is one of the warmest ways into Moroccan life. In this hands-on class a local cook shows you how to build a tagine, balance spices and prepare fresh salads — then you eat what you’ve made together.
Classes usually take place in a guesthouse kitchen or a family home around Merzouga and Hassi Labied. Your cook introduces the essentials of the Moroccan pantry — cumin, ginger, turmeric, paprika, saffron when available, preserved lemon and olives — and explains how they’re used. You then prepare a main dish, typically a chicken, vegetable or kefta tagine, alongside two or three cooked or raw salads.
While the tagine simmers there’s time for mint tea and conversation about everyday food in the desert: dates from the Tafilalet palm groves, bread baked in clay ovens, and dishes cooked for celebrations. Vegetarian and other dietary needs can usually be accommodated on request.
Hosts are paid fairly for their time, ingredients and kitchen. Where the class is in a family home, it is arranged with the family’s consent and access is never guaranteed at short notice. Please ask before photographing your hosts.
Timings shift with the season (sunrise and sunset change by more than two hours across the year).
