OvernightNomad Family Stay (Subject to Consent)
A respectful, basic night with a nomad family — only by their invitation and when they are nearby.

A few families still live a nomadic or semi-nomadic life on the plains around Erg Chebbi, moving with their goats, sheep and camels. With their consent, this visit offers tea in a tent and an honest conversation about desert life today.
We travel by 4x4 (or camel, where arranged) to an area where a family is camped. Your guide translates as you share mint tea, see how the woven goat-hair tent is set up, and hear about herding, water, and the seasonal movements that shape the year. Many families now combine herding with settled life, and droughts have made the old ways harder — your guide will speak openly about these changes.
Visits happen only with the family’s consent. Nomadic families move, and some days no visit will be possible; we never promise access. When a visit goes ahead, the family receives fair payment for their time and hospitality, arranged by our team in advance.
Please treat the tent as someone’s home: follow your host’s lead, ask before photographing anyone, and avoid giving sweets or money to children directly. If you’d like to bring a gift, ask us what is useful.
Timings shift with the season (sunrise and sunset change by more than two hours across the year).

They are local families who herd animals and live in tents for all or part of the year. Many combine this with settled life — your guide will explain honestly.
Sometimes, with the family’s consent — see our nomad family stay. It’s never guaranteed.
It’s not required. If you’d like to, ask us — practical items or food staples are often more welcome than sweets.
