Full daySunrise & Sunset Desert Adventure
Catch both sunrise and sunset in the dunes, with a relaxed midday in between.

Walking is the quietest way to experience Erg Chebbi. With a guide who grew up here, you learn to read tracks, understand how the dunes form, and find the best viewpoints.
Erg Chebbi’s dunes rise up to roughly 150 m, and walking among them is harder than it looks: soft sand doubles the effort, especially uphill. The guide therefore plans routes along ridges and firmer sand, with plenty of stops. Your guide picks a route to suit your fitness, from a short loop at the dune edge to a longer climb towards the higher crests near Merzouga and Hassi Labied.
Along the way you may see tracks of beetles, lizards, fennec foxes or jerboas, and learn how desert plants survive. Your guide explains how winds shape the dunes, and why they change every season. Early morning and late afternoon are the best times, especially in summer. Walks can finish at a viewpoint for sunrise or sunset, or at a camp.
Timings shift with the season (sunrise and sunset change by more than two hours across the year).

Moderate. The guide adapts the route, but soft sand is tiring.
Tracks are common; animals are shy and usually nocturnal, so sightings are not guaranteed.
