2 days2-Day Marrakech to Zagora Desert Trip
A quick desert taste from Marrakech: Ait Ben Haddou, the Draa Valley and a camp near Zagora – smaller dunes, shorter trip.

If you cannot stay overnight in the south, this day trip crosses the Tizi n’Tichka to Ait Ben Haddou, the most famous ksar in Morocco. Be prepared: with roughly 3.5–4 hours of driving each way, it is a long day, though the mountain scenery makes the journey part of the experience.
Marrakech → Tizi n’Tichka → Ait Ben Haddou → (Ouarzazate) → Marrakech
Best for: Travellers short on time who want to see the south and the Atlas in one day and are comfortable with a long drive.
Driving times are approximate and exclude long stops; they vary with weather, roads and traffic.
We leave Marrakech early, around 7–7:30 am, and climb through the High Atlas past villages and walnut groves to the Tizi n’Tichka pass (2,260 m), stopping for photos and coffee. Descending the southern side, the landscape turns drier and redder. We arrive at Ait Ben Haddou around late morning. Cross the river and walk up through the ksar, its earthen houses stacked on the hillside, to the ruined granary at the top for wide views. After lunch, you can add a short drive (30 minutes) to Ouarzazate to see the Taourirt kasbah from outside, or head straight back. Expect to reach Marrakech between 7 and 8 pm.
We confirm these details in your written quote:
No accommodation is included – this is a day trip returning the same evening. If you would like to stay overnight, we can suggest options and adapt the plan.
Travel is by air-conditioned vehicle with driver. Lunch is at a local restaurant near the ksar at your own expense.
Shared departures run on selected dates and need a minimum number of guests — availability is confirmed before booking.
Expect 7–8 hours in the vehicle on a winding mountain road; bring motion-sickness remedies if needed. The pass can be affected by snow and closures in winter. The ksar has steep, uneven paths and steps that are challenging for people with limited mobility; the view from the riverbank is an alternative. Bring sun protection – there is little shade.

Many guests think so, as the drive over the Atlas is spectacular. If you can, staying overnight makes it far more relaxed – see our 3-day desert tours.
It is possible but makes the day even longer; we usually recommend it only on an overnight trip.
Usually between 7 and 8 pm, depending on stops and traffic.
