3 days3-Day Marrakech to Merzouga Sahara Tour
Cross the High Atlas, ride a camel into Erg Chebbi for a night under the stars and finish in Fes — the classic Sahara route in three days.

Short on time but keen to sleep in the desert? This two-day trip crosses the High Atlas to Ait Ben Haddou and follows the Draa Valley’s palm groves to Zagora. We want to be honest: the dunes near Zagora are small compared with Erg Chebbi in Merzouga. If tall golden dunes are your priority and you have three days or more, we recommend Merzouga instead.
Marrakech → Tizi n’Tichka → Ait Ben Haddou → Ouarzazate → Agdz → Draa Valley → Zagora → Marrakech
Best for: Travellers with only two days who want a desert night and a look at the southern valleys, and who accept smaller dunes.
Driving times are approximate and exclude long stops; they vary with weather, roads and traffic.
We leave Marrakech in the morning and climb into the High Atlas, crossing the Tizi n’Tichka pass at 2,260 m. Descending the southern slopes, we stop at Ait Ben Haddou to walk through the earthen ksar, then continue past Ouarzazate. After lunch the road crosses the Tizi n’Tinififft pass to Agdz and follows the Draa Valley, one of Morocco’s longest palm oases, dotted with crumbling kasbahs. We reach the Zagora area in the late afternoon and transfer to the dunes, where a short camel ride takes you to camp for sunset. Be aware the dunes here are modest in height. Dinner is served at camp, with music around the fire on many evenings.
Wake for sunrise over the dunes and palms, then enjoy breakfast at camp before the camel ride or transfer back to the vehicle. The return journey retraces the Draa Valley, with time for a short walk in a palm grove or a stop at a viewpoint over the oasis. We pass Agdz and Ouarzazate, where you can stop for lunch, and then begin the climb back over the Tizi n’Tichka with its sweeping mountain views. Expect to arrive in Marrakech in the early evening. It is a long driving day, so we keep stops short but flexible; tell your driver if you need a break.
We confirm these details in your written quote:
The night is spent in a desert camp near Zagora. Budget camps have shared facilities; standard camps typically offer tents with private bathrooms. Luxury camps are limited in this area, so for a high-end desert night we usually recommend Merzouga.
Dinner and breakfast are part of the typical plan; lunches are at your own expense. Travel is by air-conditioned vehicle with driver, private or in a shared minibus.
Shared departures run on selected dates and need a minimum number of guests — availability is confirmed before booking.
This trip involves around 12–14 hours of driving over two days, including the winding Tizi n’Tichka (2,260 m), which can be affected by snow in winter. Bring motion-sickness remedies if needed. Camel rides are not recommended with back problems or during pregnancy; walking or a vehicle transfer to camp can be arranged. The Draa Valley is very hot in summer. Camps and sandy ground are difficult for wheelchair users.

Merzouga’s Erg Chebbi has much higher, classic Saharan dunes but needs at least three days from Marrakech. Zagora suits travellers with only two days who accept smaller dunes.

It is a lot – about 6–7 hours each way plus stops. If you can, a 3-day Merzouga tour gives a much fuller desert experience.
