Short (≤ 2 h)Stargazing in the Sahara
Lie back on the sand and discover constellations, planets and desert sky stories under dark Sahara skies.

Away from towns, the sky over Erg Chebbi can be remarkably dark. This proposed journey slows the evening down so you can watch the stars appear one by one, then wake to dawn over the dunes. This is a proposed signature concept — every element is subject to confirmation by our team when you enquire, depending on season, weather and local availability.
Proposed experience. This is an original concept we are developing. It is not yet a fixed product — ask us whether it can be arranged for your dates and group, and we will confirm exactly what is possible.
Who it’s for: Curious travellers, couples, families with older children and amateur astronomers who want to spend real time under a dark desert sky.
Most desert evenings are busy with dinner and music. This concept gives the sky the leading role. After sunset at camp and an early dinner, we would walk a short distance away from the camp lights, lay out mats and blankets, and let your eyes adjust to the dark.
A guide would help you pick out bright stars, planets and familiar constellations, and share how desert travellers have long read the sky. Where available, a telescope or binoculars could be offered — this is to be confirmed for your date.
The experience depends entirely on nature. Around full moon, moonlight washes out fainter stars, although the moonlit dunes are beautiful in their own way. Cloud, wind or dust can also limit visibility. When you enquire, we will look at the moon phase for your dates and give you an honest picture.
The night is spent at a desert camp in the dunes, with breakfast the next morning and the option of watching sunrise from a nearby ridge.
Timings shift with the season (sunrise and sunset change by more than two hours across the year).
Facilities differ between camps and seasons; we confirm them for your exact dates.
We confirm these details in your written quote:
Desert nights can be cold, especially from November to February — warm layers are essential. A head torch with a red-light setting helps you move around safely without spoiling night vision. Stay with the group when away from camp. If a camel ride is included, it is not recommended for people with back problems or during pregnancy. The session depends on moon phase and weather and may be shortened or adapted.
Contact us for a price. Every trip is priced for your dates, group size, tour type and accommodation level. Send us your plan on WhatsApp or by email and we will send you the price. [TO CONFIRM: payment method (e.g. bank transfer), deposit amount and balance deadline]. A booking is confirmed only after we confirm availability and payment arrangements in writing. We never ask for card details on this website.
It is a proposed concept rather than a fixed departure. Tell us your dates and group, and our team will confirm what can be arranged, adapt the plan if needed and send you a written proposal with the price on request.
Cloudy nights are uncommon in much of the year but do happen. The camp evening, dinner and sunrise still go ahead; our team will explain any options when confirming your booking.
