Day tripDay Trip from Fes to Chefchaouen
See the blue lanes of Chefchaouen in one very long day from Fes – about 3.5–4 hours each way. Overnight stays recommended.

Chefchaouen’s blue-washed lanes climb the slopes of the Rif Mountains, creating one of Morocco’s most photographed towns. It is relaxed, walkable and surrounded by great hiking.
Founded in 1471 as a fortress town, Chefchaouen later welcomed Andalusian Muslims and Jews who left Spain. Its walls, doors and stairways are painted in shades of blue, and the medina is compact and peaceful.
The town sits beneath peaks of the Rif, at the edge of Talassemtane National Park, home to cedar and fir forests, gorges and waterfalls.
Spring and autumn are best for walking. Summer is busy and warm; winter is cold and can be wet, with snow on higher peaks.
Day trip or overnight? Chefchaouen is possible as a long day trip from Fes, but an overnight is far more relaxed. It is not a day trip from Marrakech, and the Sahara requires a multi-day tour via Fes.
