Short (≤ 2 h)Sunset Camel Trekking in Erg Chebbi
The classic Merzouga ride: camels, long shadows and sunset from a dune ridge.

Not sure you want a long ride? A short loop at the edge of the dunes is enough to feel the camel’s rolling gait, take some photos and decide whether you would like more.
This is the simplest camel experience we offer: a gentle loop near the dune edge at Merzouga or Hassi Labied, with your guide walking alongside. There is no steep climbing, and you are never far from the village. The camels used for short rides are the same calm, well-handled animals as on longer treks, and they rest between outings. It is a good way to try riding before you commit to a longer trek.
It suits travellers with limited time — for example, those arriving late in the afternoon on a longer tour — as well as children (with an adult), older travellers and anyone who simply wants to try it. The ride can be scheduled at most times of day outside the summer heat, though late afternoon light is the most photogenic. If you enjoy it, it is easy to upgrade to a sunset trek or an overnight stay on another day.
Timings shift with the season (sunrise and sunset change by more than two hours across the year).
We confirm these details in your written quote:
Camel riding is gentle but not for everyone. The camel kneels for you to mount and dismount, and the two lurches as it stands and sits can jar the back, so tell us beforehand about back or neck problems, recent surgery or hip issues. We do not recommend riding during pregnancy. A weight guideline applies for the animals’ welfare — the exact limit is set by the operator and must be confirmed before booking. On steep descents your guide may ask you to dismount and walk, which is safer for you and easier on the camel. Our camels are rested between rides, watered, and never overloaded; a guide leads the caravan on foot at all times.

If you are short on time or unsure about riding, yes — it gives a real feel for the camels and the dunes without a long commitment.
Outside summer it is possible, but the light is flat and the sand hot. Early morning or late afternoon is better.
