5 days5-Day Imperial Cities Tour
Morocco’s four imperial cities plus Casablanca and Roman Volubilis, with two nights in Fes and a finish in Marrakech.

Three very different places lie within easy reach of Fes. Volubilis preserves the mosaics and columns of a Roman town, Moulay Idriss is one of Morocco’s holiest towns, and Meknes, the capital of Sultan Moulay Ismail, impresses with its gates and granaries.
Fes → Volubilis → Moulay Idriss → Meknes → Fes
Best for: History lovers and anyone spending several days in Fes.
Driving times are approximate and exclude long stops; they vary with weather, roads and traffic.
We leave Fes around 9 am and drive about 1.5 hours through olive groves and wheat fields to Volubilis. With a site guide on request, walk among the remains of houses, the basilica, the triumphal arch and beautifully preserved floor mosaics. A short drive brings us to a viewpoint over Moulay Idriss, its whitewashed houses spilling over two hills; the town is a pilgrimage site and the shrine is closed to non-Muslims. After lunch, continue about 45 minutes to Meknes. See Bab Mansour, El Hedim square, the vast granaries and stables, and the area around the Moulay Ismail mausoleum where visits are permitted. Return to Fes, about an hour away, by early evening.
