Fes to Merzouga 3 Days Desert Safari Overview

Enjoy an amazing 3-day desert trip from Fes to Merzouga, a journey full of special moments you will always remember. Your trip starts with a drive through the Middle Atlas Mountains. You will stop in Ifrane, a clean and quiet town often called the “Moroccan Switzerland.” Then continue to the cedar forest near Azrou, where you might see wild monkeys in their natural habitat.

After that, drive along the beautiful Ziz Valley, known for its palm trees and stunning views, until you reach the golden sand dunes of Merzouga. Here, you will enjoy a peaceful camel ride into the Sahara Desert and spend the night in a desert camp under the stars — a truly unforgettable experience.

On the second day, take time to explore the desert area on a 4×4 excursion. Visit nomadic families, enjoy traditional Gnawa music in Khamlia, discover fossil sites in M’ifis, and relax in a quiet oasis. Tour Plan

Day 1:Fes – Ifrane – Azrou Cedar Forest – Midelt – Merzouga

On the day of your trip from Fes to the desert you will get picked up early from your hotel or riad in Fes. Then you will start your journey south through the Middle Atlas Mountains.

Your first stop is Ifrane. Ifrane is a nice and quiet town. People call it the “Little Switzerland of Morocco” because the buildings look like they are from Europe. After Ifrane you will go to Azrou. In Azrou you will see a cedar forest and you might see some wild monkeys. You can go near the monkeys. Take their pictures.

Then you will keep going through villages and mountain roads. You will pass through Midelt and Errachidia. After that you will have a drive through the Ziz Valley. The Ziz Valley is famous for its palm trees and nice views.

In the afternoon you will get to Merzouga. Merzouga is a town in the desert. When you get to Merzouga you will meet the camels at the edge of the Erg Chebbi dunes. Then you will go for a camel ride while the sun is setting.

At the camp you will have a good dinner. You will also listen to Berber music while you are looking at the stars. You will sleep in a camp in Merzouga.

 
 
Day 2:Merzouga Desert Excursion – Nomad Villages – Khamlia – Desert Sights – Hotel Stay

Wake up early to watch the sunrise over the sand near your camp — it’s a calm and beautiful moment. After breakfast, spend the day exploring the area of Merzouga. Start with a visit to the village of Khamlia, where you can enjoy traditional Gnawa music. Then visit nomadic Berber families living near the dunes of Erg Chebbi and learn about their simple daily life.

Next, continue to the old mines of M’ifis and enjoy the wide views of the desert. Later, stop for lunch and try Berber pizza in a local restaurant. In the afternoon, visit a quiet desert oasis where you can relax. At the end of the day, you will go to a comfortable hotel and spend the night there.

Day 3:Day 3: Merzouga – Erfoud – Middle Atlas – Fes

After breakfast at your hotel, begin your journey back to Fes.

First, to Erfoud, a town famous for its fossils and date palms. Drive again through the beautiful Ziz Valley, with some stops along the way to take photos and enjoy the views.

Stop for lunch in Midelt, a quiet town surrounded by the mountains. In the afternoon, continue through the cedar forests of the Middle Atlas, where you may see wild monkeys again. You will arrive back in Fes in the early evening, where you will be dropped off at your hotel. This marks the end of your 3-day desert trip.
